Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 August 2026

In short

Tonagi is designed to work with as little data as possible. Your instrument's sound is analysed on the device itself, in real time. We use no third-party analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and we do not sell data. Everything the app keeps stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud account. The only case where you create an account and send us anything is if you choose to publish material to, or like material in, the community library on this website (optional — section 11).

1. Who we are

Tonagi is an iOS app for tuning practice, made for musicians. The data controller is Bernardo Barreira. For any privacy question, contact us at [email protected].

2. The principle: almost no data collection

The tuner, generator, metronome, sequences, routines and progress work without any account and without collecting name, email, location, advertising identifiers or other personal data. Sound is processed on your device and your study material stays under your exclusive control.

The only exception is the community library (optional — section 11): to publish material, or to like material, you need a basic account on this website. Browsing and importing from the library require no account. If you never publish or like, no personal data of yours is collected.

3. Microphone

The app requests microphone access for a single purpose: to analyse, in real time, the pitch of the notes you play.

4. Session audio recordings

When you record a study session in the Progress tab, the audio recording is saved together with that session (if you cancel the recording, the audio is discarded). About these recordings:

5. Study material the app stores

Your recordings, sequences, routines, projects, custom temperaments, presets and preferences are stored on your device. They are yours and remain under your control: you can view, export and delete them inside the app.

6. iCloud sync and backup (optional)

If you enable the app's iCloud sync, or iOS backup, your study material — and, in the case of backup, the audio recordings — is copied to your personal iCloud account so it is available across your devices.

7. Purchases

Subscriptions, the lifetime purchase and donations are processed by Apple, through the App Store (StoreKit). We never see or store your payment data. Billing, refunds and subscription management are handled by Apple. The app only checks, on your device, whether your purchase is active.

8. What we do NOT collect

Apart from the optional community-library account (section 11):

9. Third parties

The app integrates no third-party data services. It relies only on Apple infrastructure (App Store for purchases; iCloud for syncing/backing up to your personal account), whose processing is governed by Apple's policy. The app includes open-source software libraries (AudioKit and related components; KissFFT) that run on your device and collect and transmit nothing.

This website is served by Cloudflare and the community library runs on Supabase — both acting as processors for the account data described in section 11.

10. Children

The core of Tonagi (tuner, metronome, sequences, routines, progress) collects no personal data from anyone, including children, and has no chat or messaging between users. It is not directed at children under 13 without adult supervision.

Publishing and liking in the community library (section 11) require an account and are intended for users aged 16 or over; below that age, the verifiable consent of a holder of parental responsibility is required, in line with the GDPR.

11. Community library account (optional)

The community library lets you share and discover study material — sequences, routines and temperaments created by musicians. Browsing and downloading require no account. To publish or to like, you create a basic account on this website. What it involves:

You can delete what you published at any time, and you can close your account: closing it deletes your profile, your submissions (including published material) and your likes. Account data is kept only for as long as the account exists.

12. Ambassadors, collaborators and institutions

This website may present profiles of ambassador artists and collaborators — name, profession, photograph, biography. That information is published on the basis of each person's own consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)), documented separately — never through these pages or any blanket clause. Anyone whose data appears here can withdraw that consent and ask for removal at any time: write to [email protected] and the profile comes down.

The site may also mention institutions — conservatoires, orchestras, schools — where Tonagi is used. Such references are made with the relevant permission where required and do not imply endorsement unless expressly stated.

13. Future feature — teacher–student mode (not yet available)

A teacher–student mode is planned for a future version and does not exist today, so it processes no data. It will share, between chosen people, material only — there will be no messaging, chat or conversations. When (and if) launched, it will have its own consent flow, will process only necessary data, and this policy will be updated and communicated inside the app before it goes live.

14. Security

Because your data lives on your device (and, if you choose, in your iCloud account), it benefits from iOS protections: device encryption and the security safeguards of your Apple account. Community-library data is protected by row-level security rules enforced by the database itself.

15. Your rights

Under the GDPR and equivalent laws, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction and objection regarding your personal data. With the app, exercising them is direct: everything that exists is on your device and in your iCloud account, under your exclusive control. With a community-library account, you can see and manage your data in your account and delete everything via account deletion. For any question, write to [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your competent supervisory authority.

16. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will publish the updated version on this page, with a new date, and communicate relevant changes inside the app.
